In our monthly high-energy demonstration vegetarian cooking classes, we

  • feature uncomplicated recipes
  • debunk myths regarding plant-based eating
  • share food lore & history
  • eat yummy food samples
  • enjoy taste tests of various foods & products
  • have a lot of fun!

Committed to supporting a sustainable food system, we use mostly local, seasonal, organic plant-based ingredients and provide students with

  • discounts to local grocers and restaurants
  • a bevy of resources on nutrition, cooking tips, and more!

THE DETAILS:

PAY BY CHECK: Mail your check made out to "Compassionate Cooks, P.O. Box 18512 Oakland, CA 94619.
PAY BY ONLINE/CREDIT CARD: Use the online registration. NOTE: A small handling fee is added to all online payments.
TUITION: $50 per person + $5 food/materials fee (due on day of class). November and December classes are $55 + $5 due to their more elaborate recipes.
WHEN: All classes are held on Saturdays from 10am - 1pm. Please register no later than two days before the class.
WHERE: First Unitarian Church of Oakland - 685 14th St. - conveniently located right off the freeway and within walking distance to public transportation, including 12th and 19th Street BART stations.
PARKING:
  • Free parking on Saturdays and Sundays at the Clay Street Garage at 14th and Clay
  • Two-hour parking all around the church (people usually just check their cars or meters during our break)
  • On Martin Luther King, between 11th and 12th St., in front of the Pardee Home Museum, the 2-hour parking ends and there is unmarked, unmetered parking.
WAIVER/CLASS POLICIES: If paying by check, please enclose a copy of the signed liability waiver and class policies. If paying online, please understand you are agreeing to the liability waiver and class policies. All students will be asked to sign the waiver the day of the class.
